I'm currently in the midst of editing some images from a shoot I worked on a few days ago. It was a lovely collaboration of photographer, 2 models, hair stylist, MUA and I even had a fabulous photography assistant. I'd put a shout out for an assistant to help me with this shoot as I knew that I would struggle with reflector holding and shooting at the same time! There were also all the clothes and expensive head pieces to keep an eye on that we were show casing in this shoot.... Luckily a friend of mine contacted me to say her friends daughter was interested in being involved who was really keen on photography and was thinking of pursuing it as a course option at college next year. She turned out to be invaluable as did the MUA who also stayed to help. Quite honestly I have no idea how I managed before without an assistant! It really does make all the difference. I also love having other peoples opinions when I'm shooting and not 100% sure about a composition or outfit/ backdrop etc.
All in all a great shoot with some strong images of the bespoke head pieces.

Charlestown Shoot With Natalie
I couldn't have asked for a nicer evening for my trial shoot with my new lens last Sunday evening. It was a warm and still evening with perfect sunset light, nicely diffused to give a fabulous glow to the models skin. My model turned out to be a real natural in front of the camera too and a real joy to work with. I'm so pleased with the results that I have booked another shoot with this model in a few weeks time. I sent some of the images to a local magazine who thought the images where really good and they have asked me if I would be interested in doing a shoot for them! "Yes of course" was my reply, so I'm now excitedly awaiting the brief. I've just ordered myself some outside lighting which I'm really looking forward to trying out next week. I think I'll try potluck again with a call out on my FB photography page for a model as it worked a treat last time!

For quite some time Ive been wanting to buy myself a zoom lens to fit my Canon 5d as my old one isn't compatible. Since buying the 5d I've only had 2 lenses that Ive been able to use with it as I just couldn't afford the zoom lens I wanted. So for the past 12 months I've been making do with just 2 prime lenses, the 50 and the 85mm, which are fantastic lenses, but I wanted to be able to have the choice of focal length without having to keep switching the primes or just sticking to one focal length!
As luck would have it, last week a good friend of mine from Exeter, who is into making short films rather than photography was in Portholland and we were chatting about cameras and lenses etc when I mentioned I was bidding on e.bay for a 24 - 105 lens. He responded with, "Really, Ive got that lens, in fact I have it with me and I'm thinking of selling it as I just don't use it" Within 2 minutes it was a done deal and the lens was on my 5d before you could say 'yay'!. So for £530 I got my long desired for lens, complete with UV filter, lens hood and a lovely little bag to keep it in!
So, I've now had the lens for a week and because of our Cornish climate, drizzle, mist and rain for the past week, I haven't been able to christen it. Last night I checked the local forecast, sunshine.....all day! I quickly put a post up on my Facebook photography page saying I was looking for a model for an inpromtu shoot. Luckily within just a few minutes I bagged myself a gorgeous model willing to pose for me today. And so I have a shoot booked for this evening with the lovely Natalie Jayne Whear.

As I haven't yet uploaded a photo, and I REALLY want to see what my new blog looks like with an image, I'm going to post a photo of my beautiful daughter Verity-Blue. This photo was taken around 18 months ago when I could still persuade her to model for me to help hone my newly aquired photographic passion! This photo was taken in my dining room with just a silver reflector to enhance the catchlights in her eyes. I remember that I wanted to get her face opposite the window behind me for some lovely natural light, and so she had to lay with her knees against the wall to achieve this! The floor was painted white and I just put a white duvet down for her to lay on. She had just come back from abroad and had a lovely tan which really accentuated the new wooden bangles she is wearing in the photo. This is quite simply my favourite picture of her EVER!
I met a lovely model last week who introduced me to 'blogging'. Sure, I'd heard of blogging before but didn't really take much notice as I wrongly assumed it was something that would not interest me.
HowEVER, after taking a look at some fabulous photography blogs I was inspired to create my own'. I realised that it's a fabulous way to share my work and talk about something that Im really passionate about. :-)
I'm not presuming I'll have a large avid audience, my writing and grammar skills are rubbish, but just maybe I'll slowly gather a few followers along the way who will appreciate my images as much as I do!
